My experiences using Substack
On why this is simply such a great platform
I find Substack to be an extremely flexible and modern social medium. The combination of sound, text, picture, and video is intuitive and provides you with a smooth feeling of expressing you ideas exactly like you want to.
I began using Substack more as a result of mixed feelings about LinkedIn. I still find LinkedIn useful, but the platform has changed - and certain features never really evolved into what they should have been. Especially the newsletter function, that LinkedIn for some reason encourages people to create, and then does nothing to circulate if users actually use. What a paradox! That reality is the exact opposite here, it’s built around active newsletters of longform formats, that can either be for free or behind a paywall.
I have experimented with some of the formats on Susbtack, I list them below. This is not a complete picture of the functionality, and that is a point in itself - this platform is extremely diverse, with elements similar to other longform platforms, shortform platforms, video and picture platforms. As such, it’s a media convergence of social platform - the most successful one in a long time.
